Thomas is a real challenger to me.

I remember when I first proposed him the so called Mobile School – he was fascinated with the idea, but challenged me with a lot of questions.

Second time, when I came to Corsica, to present the results of the coding project with, at the time, a doubtful future he was a bit disappointed, angry even. Therefore challenging me again, how to continue this initiative teaching coding skills to the kids.

I left worrying, but with a lesson learned: You should never have only plan A, but always also a plan B and C et cetera when presenting to Thomas. Thanks to that today we have more than 150 mobile schools and are training over 1.2 million children in digital skills across Southeast Asia.

Thomas est un véritable challenger pour moi.

Je me souviens de la première fois que je lui ai proposé la « Mobile School ». Il était fasciné par l’idée, mais m’a posé beaucoup de questions.

La deuxième fois, lorsque je suis venu en Corse pour présenter les résultats du projet de codage dont l’avenir était incertain à cette époque, il était un peu déçu, voire en colère. Il m’a donc à nouveau demandé comment poursuivre cette initiative consistant à enseigner les techniques de codage aux enfants.

Je suis parti inquiet, mais en ayant appris une chose: il ne faut jamais avoir seulement un plan A, mais toujours un plan B, C et ainsi de suite lorsqu’on se présente à Thomas. Grâce à cela, nous avons aujourd’hui plus de 150 écoles mobiles et nous formons plus de 1,2 million d’enfants aux compétences numériques dans toute l’Asie du Sud-Est.

Thomas hat es stets verstanden, mich herauszufordern.

Ich erinnere mich, wie ich ihm zum ersten Mal die so genannte «Mobile School» vorschlug – er war von der Idee fasziniert, stellte mir aber auch jede Menge Fragen.

Als ich das zweite Mal nach Korsika kam und die Ergebnisse des Programmierprojekts präsentierte, das damals vor einer ungewissen Zukunft stand, war er ein wenig enttäuscht, ja sogar wütend. Und wieder forderte er mich heraus und hinterfragte, wie diese Initiative, Kindern Programmierkenntnisse zu vermitteln, fortgesetzt werden könnte.

Als ich ging, machte ich mir viele Gedanken, hatte aber auch eine Lektion gelernt: Wenn man Thomas etwas präsentiert, sollte man nie nur einen Plan A haben, sondern immer auch mindestens einen Plan B und C. Als Ergebnis all dessen haben wir heute mehr als 150 mobile Schulen und bringen über 1,2 Millionen Kindern in Südostasien digitale Fertigkeiten bei.
